Whilst staying at Casa Los Mangos you can choose from the following activities. We recommend a stay of 3-5 nights and can guarantee you will still have a reason to visit again.
.
- Listen to some of the best live Cuban music on the island. Trinidad has numerous open air venues including Casa de La Musica, La Canchanchara, Casa de La Trova and most restaurants and some cafe’s invite live musicians to play.
- Take a walking tour through the cobblestone streets to see the Baroque architecture and meet the local people. There are free walking tours departing from San Francisco de Assisi Park in the morning and afternoon. Or book a professional guide for an architectural tour.
- Visit a 19th Century sugar baron’s palace now restored and open to the public as museums and art galleries. Choose between the Romantic Museum, History Museum, Architecture or Archeological all located near the Plaza Mayor.
- Climb the old convent tower to get a birds eye view of the colonial town. On the first landing you will find a small gallery displaying work from some of Trinidad’s finest artists. The view extends from the Escambray mountains over the rooftops and out to the Caribbean Sea.
- Hike in a national park and cool off under a waterfall or in a natural swimming pool. A 30 minute drive to Topes De Collantes offers excellent hiking trails through the rainforest and coffee plantations that lead to natural swimming pools fed by spring and rain water, including the spectacular Vegas Grande. El Cubano park just outside Trinidad has a 7km round trip hike to a waterfall and swimming pool.
- Swim and/or snorkel at one of the numerous beaches along the Ancon Peninsula. Playa Maria Aguilar is my favourite for both swimming and snorkeling, however, there are numerous beaches to choose from along the 10 km’s of coastline between the fishing village of La Boca and the long stretch of sand at Playa Ancon.
- Sail on a catamaran to a coral island. A fabulous day trip out to Cayo Iguana with lunch and snorkeling included can be booked the day before from various local travel agents. Great for bird watching too.
- Horse-ride into the Valley of the Sugar Mills. A full or half day trip through farmland, the village of Pastora and into the National Park to cool off under a waterfall can also include lunch or refreshments at a farm house.
- Learn to dance Salsa or play Cuban percussion instruments. Trinidad has a variety of dance schools and music teachers to choose from for beginners through to advanced students.
- Shop in the local Artisan street markets. Trinidad has a thriving arts community including painters, sculptures, potters, embroiderers, hat and basket weavers and jewellers. Market stalls are set up in various locations throughout the historical centre.
- Dine in the local cafes and restaurants. You will find an eclectic range of bars, cafe’s and restaurants throughout the town and at the beach serving seasonal fruit, vegetables, seafood and creole food. There is a great Italian restaurant, a cafe under a Mango tree, and a few Spanish style tapas bars I often recommend.
- Ride a zip line or canopy in one of 3 scenic locations outside Trinidad.
- Take a siesta in a hammock or read a good book on our verandah and look out for hummingbirds.
- Go to a late night disco in a cave. Disco Ayala which opens at 10.30pm until 3.30pm is a nightclub on the outskirts of town housed in a large cave. Entrance fee includes a drink.
- Snack on home made guacamole and banana chips. Casa Los Mangos grows 7 different varieties of avocado and 4 types of banana. All our meals, snacks and drinks include homegrown ingredients.
- Enjoy a home cooked breakfast or brunch featuring farm to table ingredients and eggs provided by our flock.
- Walk up Loma la Vigia to a lookout with views stretching from the mountains across the valley and town and out to sea.
- Watch sunset from a rooftop bar whilst enjoying a local cocktail and listening to Cuban rythyms. Trinidad is 4 kms from the coast, on a hillside, and there are many places to choose from to watch sunset and catch the sea breeze.
- Browse the local artists galleries, of which there are numerous in the historical centre and beyond. Trinidads Art Gallery, in the beautifully decorated Ortiz Palace, is free entry. Exhibitions are regularly held in other museums.
- Cycle the coast and country roads. Bikes can be hired for the day and securely parked at the beaches or El Cuban Park which is an 8km ride from Trinidad.
- Visit an archeological site in the Valley of the Sugar Mills, San Isidro de Los Destiladeros a former sugar plantation and now an outdoor museum and archeological dig which offers an insight into life on a sugar production, particularly for a slave, and the history of sugar production in Cuba. Nearby are other restored plantation houses Buena Vista (now a boutique hotel and restaurant), Manaca Iznaga (famous tower, restaurant bar and artisan market) and Guaimaro (Musuem to the Sugar Baron Borrell).
